It’s probably great.

Nick Gazin really knows how to pick ‘em. This is like, what, his second comics interview I’ve linked in a week?

Interview with Michael Deforge

Ok, I actually I haven’t read the interview because I’m right in the middle of reading Lose #1 and I don’t wan’t anything spoiled for me or whatever. But I bet it’s a great interview…I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Anyway, I was at work reading a friend’s copy of Lose #1 but then I had to actually do my job and draw. I still haven’t been able to finish it and I basically sat there for 5 hours THINKING about reading it, which was the WORST.

So far the book has been fucking trancendent. I mean really, really good, or, as Nick Gazin said before I stopped reading: “Real, real, real, real great.”  This makes sense because most things Micheal Deforge draws fall into that category. I mean I’d  post his work here but this blog is supposed to be a spot for my shameless self promotion and I don’t feel like being shown up on my own site.

So yeah, full report TOMMOROW or whenever I feel like it.

What I’m Excited About:

Published on 2009/11/25

  1. Farel Dalrymple interview on VICE. http://www.viceland.com/blogs/en/2009/11/23/farel-dalrymple-had-good-clean-fun/
  2. Speaking of a Farel Darlyrmple, I finally bought Pop Gun War along with other stuff I love and should already own like the Nightfisher and Batman: Year One.
  3. Additionally I also got Pim & Francie: “the Golden Bear Days” by Al Columbia and it was crazy disturbing.—and highly recommended.
  4. James Blagden is awesome. Watch.
  5. …and this.

So, I had an awesome time at the act-i-vate book release party. I’d been meaning to check out Bergen St. Comics for awhile now and this provided an excellent excuse. The space was super nice and absolutely packed with people (no really the book was sold out before the end of the night). I got to catch up with lots of people including Tim Hamilton who gave me a copy his new book, a graphic novel adaption of Fahrenheit 451. (Thanks Tim!)  Go read it, ’cause it’s awesome.

Y’know I really enjoyed doing these. sometimes just messing around in photoshop produces nice results. In other news, I switched over from wordpress.com to self hosting my blog so I can integrate it more with my website. I’m still in the process of updating the look but hopefully that will be resolved soon. In other other news I finally updated my site since I created it. YAY!

Working

Most if the storyboarding stuff I do is…uh… utilitarian because of time/creative restraints. Still, I find this kind of work interesting because it forces me to not get too precious with a drawing or idea.

Usually none of the work can really stand on it’s own, but I thought this frame was nice little vignette.

Of course, they cut the dog the dog ended up cut in the final :(

Human Cannonball

Oh hey people! For anyone in the studio this has been done for a while and is old news, but it’s new to the internet. I’m pretty jazzed about it and have more stuff in the works/ needs to be scanned.

This was for SooJin’s class. I got my wisdom teeth out Friday and knocked this out on Monday, so how’s that for turnaround?

Also the lovely Jillian Tamaki came in the other week and showed us her skills power point presentation style. She was really amazing, but that’s also old news.
